Happy first day of Fall!
Discussed first day of Fall very briefly. We're all excited!
FIAR: Read Lentil by Robert McCloskey; written in 1940
FIAR Social Studies: J&P
Geography - Found Ohio on map in basement and marked it. Found NJ and figured out which direction you would follow to get to Ohio. Talked about fun ways to remember how to spell Ohio.
Human Relationships - Talked about how Lentil may have felt about being different from all his friends when he couldn't do what they could do. Then talked about Lentil's special gift. Talked about what can make people unique and how it's good to have a variety of things in every aspect of your life. Variety of friends, foods, etc. Wouldn't it be boring if you were just like everyone else!? Talked about focusing on people's strengths rather than their weaknesses.
Human Relationships - Disagreeable People - Discussed jealousy - this went on for a LONG time. Jesse got upset at times when I pointed out times when he was jealous of others, but understood what I was getting at in the end. Still struggled with this when Paul came up with an answer faster than he did at one point, but we talked through it and Jesse told Paul he was proud of him for coming up with the answer so fast, albeit, begrudgingly. But practice of breaking old bad habits is a start.
Small town life/History - Compared and contrasted life in a small town and a big city. Also compared and contrasted how things have changed in the last 70 years. Clothes, cars, traffic, etc.
Patriotism - Looked at and discussed the American flag and what it reprsents and also talked about reasons to be proud of living in your country. Jesse said he was most excited about being able to worship God because He is so great!
