Short day today, but a good one!

FIAR: J & P - Read Lentil

Literature: Went over 5 key elements of a story - Setting the stage; conflict; rising action; climax; denouement - discussed all these things in regards to Lentil. FIAR book suggested writing a story with all these elements, but instead I asked J to think about The Story About Ping and see if he could tell me all 5 stages of that story. He did amazingly!!! Things I was sure he would miss he got exactly right and even caught a couple of things that I hadn't thought of. It was so amazing to me because TSAP is a MUCH different story than Lentil, so for J to have figured out everything so well means he really was understanding the concept of all the elements. It was great, we were both very excited.

Math:

WAK flashcards - 62-67 - counting; greater than less than (between coins and paper money); tally charts; matching; addition; division - this concept was definitely beyond his current skill level. Is a 1st grader supposed to know how to divide?!?

SSM Workbook - pgs 23-24 - ordinal numbers - 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.; commutative property of addition. Was a little confusing for him at first, he had to write out his own math problems with a given set of three numbers. After I sat with him and explained it a bit he understood and did really well.

General: P

BPW pg 101 - writing the letter E and identifying pictures that start with the E sound.

Phys Ed:

J & P rode bikes around Greenbriar I and then went home and had drinks, then took an equally long walk after that. C in stroller. Beautiful day!
