Art & Math Day
Art - Color - Discussed why the author may have chosen to make all the woods and animals black and white, while the people and villages were colorful.
Viewpoint - discussed the viewpoint used for most of the pictures from the book and how you can do drawings of the same thing from all different viewpoints.
Mood - The illustrator does a terrific job of setting the mood of the poem with the illustrations shown. Talked about how she did that.
Just for fun, talked about the song Jingle Bells because the illustrations had a one-horse open sleigh. =)
Math - Counted various animals - lots of the illustrations had animals well hidden in the woods, so that was fun.
Also talked about memorizing poetry but told J he didn't have to do that yet cos he was kinda young. I memorized this poem when I was a kid, but not until 4th grade.
