Read Katy and the Big Snow by Virginia Lee Burton
J recognized that this book was written by the same person as Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel by the illustrations in the book.
Social Studies
Discussed that Burton names the town Geoppolis. J recognized that there is also a town in Backyardigans called Geoppolis. Discussed what Geo means world and ppolis means city and how parts of words mean different things.
Responsibilities:
Talked about how if Katy hadn't dug people out how they wouldnt be able to do their responsibilities e.g. Fireman. What if the water company couldnt get to the broken water main. Each place in the town had a certain responsibility. Asked if Jesse had any responsibilities that would effect other people. He came up with silverware and how we wouldnt be able to eat.
Street Signs:
Page 5 of book shows various street signs. Talked about that the next time we go driving we will discuss some of the street signs in the book and what they mean.
Math Skills:
Talked about compass and directions and getting places. Talked about getting a compass to walk around. Sun rises in the east and sets in the west and using that to determine direction.
Math:
J-SSM workbook pages 94-95. Adding and subtracting, ordinal numbers, identifying times on analog clock.
Coloring:
J-page 3 of spongebob coloring book.
Reading
P-Completed lesson 30 of 100 EL. Did great!
