Happy Birthday Isaac!

FIAR: J & P

Math Day (and a little Science)

Discussed ordinal numbers and counted all the flights of Bleriot in the book before he could actually fly.

Also talked about Roman Numerals. Showed J: I (1), V (5), X (10), C (100), M (1000). Didn't show D or L because I couldn't remember their values offhand. I know one of them is 50... and the other probably doesn't exist...I think it's L that's 50.... ANYWAY.

J was very into this lesson. Talked to him about ancient Rome and what a long time ago those people used numbers this way. Since he showed an interest I started to show him how you do addition and subtraction with RN and he caught on instantly, almost no problems. Fun stuff!

Invention - Papa Bleriot got an idea and never gave up. He worked hard for years and years but persevered through many failures, but then, i success, he finally got to exclaim, "I DID IT!!". J was very much into this lesson, too, as he loves to accomplish things. It was good to tell him about all the failures because he is prone to giving up early. Told him about Thomas Edison (and out family ties =) and how he made hundred of light bulbs before one ever actually functioned properly. Asked him if he would like to learn more about inventing/inventors and he said "Yes!"
