FIAR: J & P
Read Cranberry Thanksgiving by Wende and Harry Devlin - fun!
Social Studies Day
Geography - New England - Located New England on map and marked it. Showed J & P how almost all it's states are bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and three of them share borders with Canada. Also discussed things that New England is typically known for: clams, lobsters, cranberries, cold weather, beautiful fall colors, RED SOX!
Relationships -
Grandparents - This is the third FIAR book we've read that has a special relationship between grandparent and grandchild. J was challenged to ask each of his grandparents special things about them to find out some fun facts!
Disagreeable people - discussed Mr. Horace - a thief! Talked about how there will always be people that want to cheat and steal to get things, but we must never do that! We should always remember that God is with us and He will give us what we need. If He doesn't give us something we want, that means we are not supposed to have it and we don't NEED it.
Also talked about how disagreeable people give us the chance to practice forgiveness. When someone has wronged us, we should forgive them and not hold a grudge.
Judging by appearance - The Grandmother in the story unfairly judged Mr. Whiskers because he had long whiskers and smelled of clams and seaweed. Contrarily, she liked Mr. Horace because he smalled of lavender and walked with a gold cane. But Mr. Horace turned out to be a thief and Mr. Whiskers turned out to be the hero. We need to remember to never judge people just by how they look, but to get to know them first. We wouldn't want people thinking bad things about us just because they don't like how we smell or dress, right?
History -
Thanksgiving - talked about the first Thanksgiving and why it was celebrated. J remembered a little bit of the story from kindergarten.
Also talked about family traditions and being thankful for the things we have.
Long FIAR lesson today! And tomorrow's looks even longer............
